The beautiful Noosa River has over 40 kilometres of pristine waterways that await you, with an A rating for its water quality and its abundance of wildlife. It’s one of the few Queensland rivers that enjoys a continuous year-round freshwater inflow making it not only safe for swimming and boating, but great for fishing and crabbing. Noosa has a fishing experience for everyone. Try your luck offshore on the reefs or take a boat and fish the estuaries of the Noosa River. The real catch is the scenery!
If you manage to bag a few then you can cook them up on the Resort’s BBQs.
Before you head out on a fishing trip, it is important that you consult the local tackle shop if you are unsure of the recreational fishing regulations that apply in Queensland as there are serious penalties for infringements. The Queensland Department of Primary Industry is responsible for regulating recreational fishing in Queensland.
Regulations apply to:
• The size and number of fish you may catch
• The seasons that you can catch certain fish
• And the type of equipment you are permitted to use

For the offshore fisherman, our reefs produce excellent catches with winter being the most productive season. Reef species regularly caught are Snapper, Squire, Coral Trout, Pearl Perch, Moses Perch and Scarlet Sea Perch, Sweetlip, Red Emperor and Maori Cod, just to name a few. In the warmer months there are Dolphin Fish, Spotted and Spanish Mackerel, Tuna and Cobia. Game fishing enthusiasts can target species such as Marlin and Sailfish.
Kilometres of golden beaches are ideal for surf fishing with good catches all year round. Best spots are Peregian, Sunshine, Alexandria Bay, the North Shore and of course Marcus Beach on your doorstep. The groynes on Main Beach sometimes produce good size Tailor and the Eastern Beaches yield Whiting and Dart.
For the rock fishing enthusiast, the Noosa National Park can turn on the action for the novice to the most experienced daredevil cliffhangers. Local knowledge should be sought before fishing in this area.
Noosa ’s 40km of rivers and lakes provide safe and productive family fishing in all seasons. Bream & Trevally are often on the bite around Munna Point on the Noosa River. Tailor & Flathead can be caught around the river mouth.
During the warmer months, the top end of the Noosa River and Kin Kin Creek provide some hot fishing on lures and a light line. Lake McDonald and Borumba Dam also provide breathtaking scenery and good quality.
