Noosa International Sevens

Monday, November 14, 2011

Yesterday I attended the Noosa International 7's rugby tournament at the Dolphin's oval, Sunshine Beach.  It was a warm sunny day.  The atmosphere was very colourful with lots of food and drink, live bands and entertainers (even a strolling Carribean steel drum band). There was a true international flavour with a number of teams from the Pacific (Fiji, Tonga and Cook Islands).  There was also a women's competition won by the Australian Pearls.

In the final of the men's competition, the Stan Bisset trophy was won by Newstar Sports (a composite team made up of a number of contracted ACT Brumbies development players and elite club level players) who upset favourites and last year's winners the Aussie Thunderbolts (the Australian IRB representative team).

In its second year this event can only grow bigger.
